Felt Ötztal X-BIONIC goes ironamn China

On March 14, Felt Ötztal team managers and professional triathletes Anna and Jörg Scheiderbauer will be competing in Haikou for qualification in the World Championships on Hawaii in October. Their motto: Immer am Limit, immer Vollgas ‘Take it to the limit, push it as hard as you can’. To make the most of their 3.8 km swim, 180 km ride and the finishing marathon, they are using X-BIONIC to turn sweat into energy. Providing them with a decisive advantage in a sport where materials are pushed to their absolute limits. A central component of their race shirt is the patented 3D-BionicShere® System at the back. On the bike in an aerodynamic position, its specially structured surface optimises air streaming at speeds of around 40 km/h. The same as a golf ball in flight, it creates small vortexes which cause turbulent streaming. This produces narrower, lower pressure than laminar streaming produced by a smooth surface. A layer of air hugs to athlete, reducing volume. As a result wind drag is reduced and aerodynamics improves by up to 20%, as demonstrated in wind tunnel testing by Professor Lambertz in Milan. In addition, the triathletes will have to work to maintain an optimum body temperature of 37 °C during the run on the tropical island of Hainan and regulate it by sweating. X-BIONIC supports this natural climate control system by harnessing and enhancing the cooling function of sweat, rather than absorbing it. When perspiration is completely absorbed, as with conventional sportswear, the body is forced to produce more sweat. Valuable fluids, minerals and salts are wasted as a result – which can make a big difference over eight hours of competition. In extreme cases, the body overheats the same as a car engine. X-BIONIC’s extensive 3D-BionicSphere® System over the chest, back and at the coccyx allows a thin film of sweat to remain on the skin. This prevents the body from producing too much sweat and provides a cooling function through evaporation. For a turbo effect OuterAirChannels constantly allow fresh, cooling air into the system to ensure maximum performance right up to the finishing line.   As a result wind drag is reduced and aerodynamics improves by up to 20%, as demonstrated in wind tunnel testing by Professor Lambertz in Milan.
