U23 world champion Thomas Litscher won the gold medal at the Swiss XCE Championships. In front of a massive crowd in Belgach, only 10 Miles away from his hometown Thal, he left no doubt about his extraordinary qualities and deservedly claimed the gold medal in a great final race.

Thousands of spectators came to see their local hero Thomas Litscher on Saturday evening and to follow the spectacular race format that was part of the national championship program for the first time this year. In a tactical final race, Thomas Litscher beat the strong Stefan Peter, Nicola Rohrbach and Marco Widmer.

Litscher did justice to his role as favorit in the qualification and ended the time trial with the fastest lap time of all riders. Even a huge thunder storm in the middle of the second round couldn’t stop the local hero.

Confident and with the experience of numerous successful sprint races in the past, he easily made it to the final. Cheered on by is home crowd, nobody could stop him there. Stefan Peter, who was 2nd at the Worldcup Sprint in La Bresse and won last year’s Worldcup sprint in Nove Mesto, could only watch Litscher crossing the finish line first and claiming the gold medal.
